Is this program right for me?
People struggle with addictions in many different ways. If the phrases below sound like you, our intensive outpatient program could be a good fit.
“I’m worried about my substance use but not sure where to start”
“I’ve completed a residential program and I’m looking for the next step”
“I’ve tried everything and nothing has worked. I need a new approach.”
It can be hard to know whether your substance use qualifies as a disorder. This list of criteria can help you determine whether you need outside help.
We support a wide range of complex substance use and other addiction-related challenges, including:
Alcohol
Cannabis
Stimulants e.g., cocaine, methamphetamine, other amphetamines
Opioids e.g., heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone, codeine
Sedative & Anxiety Medications e.g., Xanax, benzodiazepines, hypnotics
Hallucinogens e.g., LSD, psilocybin/mushrooms, mescaline
Dissociatives e.g., PCP, ketamine, dextromethorphan
Synthetic Drugs e.g., Spice, K2, synthetic cannabinoids
Emerging Substances e.g., kratom, novel psychoactive substances
The Substance Use Recovery Program
The ProgramA path of connection & self-expression
The program runs a minimum of 8 weeks with a recommendation of 12 weeks for the full course of treatment. The program unfolds in four phases — Pre-Start, Assessment & Formulation, Active Treatment, and Step-Down & Aftercare — each building on the assessment and formulation work that comes before it.
Pre-Start
Before day 1Before your program start date, four things need to happen: intake, data onboarding, psychiatric assessment, and orientation. An orientation session must be completed before you begin.

Assessment & Formulation
Weeks 1 – 4,
3 group &
1 individual session per weekThe first month is dedicated to an in-depth individual assessment and formulation. This builds the foundation for the rest of your treatment plan.
Group work is the core of our addiction program. Working with others creates a shared community and communal learning experience. You’ll encounter new concepts, engaging your mind and challenging your assumptions.
The group program meets Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each group is divided into two to three periods with 10-minute breaks in between.
Active Treatment
weeks 5 – 12,
3 group &
1 individual session per weekWith your formulation and treatment plan in place, we continue our focus on active treatment. Before your second treatment review, your primary clinician also begins step-down planning — thinking ahead to what your care should look like once the intensive ends.

Check-ins, Relapse Prevention & Micro-Analysis
Monday mornings, we’ll start with a check in on the prior weekend, then launch into teaching a relapse prevention skill. You’ll learn how to manage cravings effectively, interrupt the relapse process and sustain long term recovery.
In the second half of group, we will identify specific, real situations where cravings or other problems arose in your life and slow them down — tracing how emotions, thoughts, anxiety and defenses interact in the moment to drive these problems. This process helps you understand and unwind recurrent patterns and unconscious conflict that may quietly be driving addiction, and identify moments where you could use relapse prevention skills to navigate life’s challenges more effectively.
-
Psychoeducation & Process
Tuesday mornings start with a specific psychoeducation topic, sharing the physical and psychological precipitants and impacts of addiction and what perpetuates the cycles of addiction, which will help you become an active co-author of your formulation, treatment and recovery.
We’ll then engage in an active process group, where we have space to share recent challenges and events, and work through the thoughts and emotions arising from these with your fellow group members.
-
Mentalization-Based Therapy & Weekend Intention Setting
Thursday mornings start with a check-in to review how clients applied Monday’s skill in their daily life to strengthen and reinforce this practice.
We’ll then segue into a Mentalization-Based Therapy group, employing an evidence-based approach that targets building the capacity to keep your mind “online” when it matters most. Much like physical therapy rebuilds strength through repetition, this group is where you practice staying reflective, curious and connected — to yourself and to others — in interpersonally and internally challenging moments, while leveraging other people’s minds in the group to build flexibility around how you understand these moments.
In the last portion of the morning, we’ll discuss upcoming anticipated hurdles to sobriety and identify how to cope ahead for the weekend.
Weekly GROUP ScheduleStep-Down & Aftercare
Weeks 12+By the end of week 12, you and your team will have already discussed what comes next. Aftercare is individualized based on your treatment focus, your existing outside team, and practical considerations, and may include ongoing group work, such as Mentalization-Based Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
-
Creating a better understanding of yourself and others.
Mentalization is the ability to understand your own thoughts and feelings, as well as the thoughts and feelings of others. This group is an introduction to Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT) and can help create a shared language for talking about thoughts, feelings, and interactions.
-
Learning to manage difficult situations and emotions.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can help you manage emotions and get a better handle on life’s ups and downs. This treatment provides clients with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills, all tools to help you cope with difficult situations and improve relationships.
