Intensive outpatient treatment for
complex mental health & substance use

Deep change starts here.

Discover your personalized path to recovery

Silver Hill New York’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) focuses on treating clients with complex mental health and substance use needs, such as those with multiple co-occurring diagnoses and impaired personality function. Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Silver Hill New York enables clients with complex needs to receive intensive treatment while maintaining their existing roles and routines. Every aspect of the program is designed to empower our clients’ sense of self, supporting sustainable recovery and long-term success.

Silver Hill New York & associated practices was created when Silver Hill Hospital recently assumed leadership over Freedom Institute. This partnership expands the continuum of expertise offered by Silver Hill Hospital into outpatient services in the heart of New York City.

Mental Health

Build the foundations to empower sustainable recovery.

We support a broad range of diagnoses, specializing in mood, anxiety and substance use with underlying personality difficulties, using multiple personality-informed treatment methods to support strong emotion regulation, identity formation and reflective functioning, regardless of diagnosis.

Substance Use

Develop and practice the skills to accelerate your recovery goals.

We support clients with a range of addictions, including alcohol, cannabis/marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other stimulants, inhalants such as paint thinners and glue, LSD, psilocybin ("magic mushrooms") and other hallucinogens, ketamine, PCP, and other dissociatives, kratom, mushrooms, LSD and other psychedelics, opioids such as codeine, fentanyl, oxycodone, heroin, sedatives, hypnotics, and anxiety medicines such as Xanax, synthetic drugs such as Spice and K2, and more.

Philosophy

Personalize

No two clients – or recovery paths – are identical. Every part of our program is designed to get to know you, craft treatments that meet you where you’re at, and tailor how we define success to your own goals. We welcome clients with all positive change goals—with virtually infinite opportunities for individuals to enter, progress, and succeed at a pace that is appropriate to them and their objectives.

Empower

This personalization of care means that you’re ultimately in charge of and responsible for your own recovery. Our program is designed to empower you with the tools, information, skills and training you need to build the life you want. Only you can take those tools and start building.

Learn

We have designed our programs to form a learning system – leveraging concrete data to personalize treatment to you. Together, we will build a deep understanding of who you are today, how you want to change, and then, as we work together, understand how that work impacts you over time. This data-driven learning process allows us to optimize the treatment you receive iteratively as we understand what works for you and what doesn’t.

Our programming is designed specifically to strengthen your sense of self – ensuring recovery is not just achievable but sustainable.

How we work
Building change together

Comprehensive
Assessment

Each treatment starts with an initial assessment, during which our team will collaborate with you to understand where you’re at, where you’re going and how to best achieve your goals based on your personality, strengths, needs, and current life circumstances.

Personalized
Treatment Plan

Together we build a personalized treatment plan and leverage your outcomes over the first few weeks of this program to refine your treatment as we learn what works and as your needs evolve and change with recovery.

Intensive
Outpatient Program

IOP includes 3 group and 1 individual session weekly, held in person at our midtown Manhattan location. Our program integrates multiple, evidence-based methods for the treatment of complex mental health & substance use.

Post-Treatment
Support

Following completion of the IOP, we help clients navigate the next phases of their recovery, including offering our own outpatient groups and support services.

Multi-Disciplinary Approach

Our team is comprised of leaders and experts across multiple mental health and substance use treatment modalities, with a strong focus on emotion regulation, identity formation, agency building, and mentalization capacity.

  • DBT can help you better manage emotions and get a better handle on life’s ups and downs. This treatment provides clients with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills, all tools to help you cope with difficult situations and improve relationships.

    • Be fully aware and present in the moment

    • Build tolerance for sitting with overwhelming and painful emotions rather than acting on them

    • Ask for what you want and say no, while maintaining self-respect and building healthy relationships with others

  • Mentalization is the ability to understand your own thoughts and feelings, as well as the thoughts and feelings of others. MBT focuses on how your mental states influence your own and others’ behavior, focusing on present, rather than past, experiences.

    • Enhance your ability to reflect on your own thoughts, feelings, and behavior under stress

    • Better understand others’ intentions by modeling their thoughts, feelings, and behavior more explicitly

    • Manage stressful interactions more adeptly

  • GPM focuses on practical problem solving, education, and realistic goal-setting to build a life worth living. Special focus is given to hypersensitivity in relationships with others and fluctuations in self esteem.

    • Set and maintain accountability towards realistic life goals that build self esteem and reduce volatility and anxiety

    • Identify patterns in relationships and learn how these dynamics impact your mood and function

    • Identify triggers and patterns that cause fluctuations in self esteem to improve perfectionism and performance anxiety

  • IHRP meets people wherever they are on their positive change journeys and supports them in defining and achieving their optimal outcomes, leveraging a combination of relational psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and other practical strategies.

    • Build a set of practical strategies to address personal and lifestyle issues and goals

    • Motivate gradual behavioral changes that align with goals

    • Reduce negative health and social consequences of substance use
